Turkey is a modern golfing paradise with several world-class facilities and many more under way. All professional courses have been developed by international teams of golf architects, consultants and PGA Professionals. Courses are maintained to a high standard. The warm climate makes Side and Belek an ideal year-round golfing location. As well as the planned courses in Side, several more courses are currently underway on Turkey's southern coast including another 10 Championship Courses on the Oymapinar Dam Lake region in Manavgat-Antalya.
The National Golf Club, probably Turkey's most famous course, was opened in late 1994. Designed by Ryder Cup player David Feherty and Seniors Tour player David Jones, the award-winning National was the first course in Turkey to be developed according to European PGA standards. In its design Feherty has incorporated aspects of the best courses he has competed on worldwide and has ensured that no two holes are similar. In the UK's Golf World Magazine in 2000, the course was rated number 42 and in 2001 number 39 golf courses in mainland Europe, and has hosted several international tournaments. Germany's Die Welt Magazine ranked this course as the number 9 golf course on the European Mediterranean coast in 2000. The landscape backs onto snow-capped views of the Taurus Mountains and pine and eucalyptus forests. There is also an extensive golf academy.
This course was designed by French golf architect Michel Gayon, and is situated amid pine forests at the foot of the Taurus Mountains. It is considered a Gayon classic, with deep bunkers, and an average 670 m2 green areas and seven ponds of 30,000 m2. The driving range is formed by a pond containing the target greens. To pass the pond with practice shots, a high shot of 203 meters is necessary. The driving range shot platform has 48 sections and two levels. You can also improve your approach shots in the new chipping and pitching areas. There is an 18-hole mini-golf course constructed by the river Acisu.
This seaside resort course is cleverly integrated with the natural landscape as intended by its designers, Hawtree (of England) Golf Course Architects. Incredible vistas provide a needed respite from the challenging course, which comprises of three, 9-hole courses that can be played in any combination to provide varied levels of difficulty for any level of golfer. The intention was to retain the natural character of the 11 acre area which is adjacent to the Mediterranean, provided by the dunes, lakes and rivers. Many of the tees are placed on the summits of the former dunes to provide excellent views of the remaining dunes, the Taurus range and the Mediterranean Sea. The Golf Course is a challenge for every golfer. Emphasis was put on giving every 9 Hole Championship Course (The TAT, The Belek and The International) its own character. The TAT also has a large Training Area. It is near the Club House, with a putting green, a putting-chipping green and two additional approaching greens for bunker shots and approaches up to 60m. The driving range has got three big target greens and has more than 40 training tees.
Open since 1998 and designed by internationally renowned architect Dave Thomas, this championship standard course is shaped from a natural pine forest and positioned alongside Belek’s Acisu River.
The Antalya Golf Club, which was opened in 1992, consists of two 18-hole courses: the Pasha and the Sultan. Both courses were constructed by European Golf Design, a subsidiary of the PGA European Tour, under the supervision of David Jones, a Northern Irish professional. They provide not only a challenge to golfers of all abilities but also wonderful surroundings in which to enjoy your game. Towering umbrella pines, crystal clear lakes and the snow capped Taurus Mountains provide a spectacular backdrop to the courses as they wind their way through the forests of Belek. The playing surfaces, second to none in their quality, stunning landscapes and perfect weather all combine for an unforgettable golfing experience. |
